Why become an Advanced Sea Kayak Leader (tidal)?
First of all, the award is open to anyone with experience of paddling in advanced tidal waters with winds exceeding Beaufort force 4. The award will enable you to lead fun, safe and enjoyable sea kayaking trips for groups of sea kayakers.
Secondly, you will be supported to develop your personal and leadership skills during two days of training, with like-minded sea kayakers.
Furthermore, this award is used by clubs, outdoor centers and organizations to support their sea kayak journeys on Advanced tidal water. This includes short, single or multi-day journeys.
This Adv SKL training will run over 3 days. Covering a good range of advanced conditions to work your personal skills and gain valuable leadership time in the saddle. Plan to use the entrances to Long Island Sound and Fishers Island Sounds, as well as East up the RI coast as far as Newport RI. So, tide races and overfalls, surf and rocks and cliffs.
